I'm staying with a friend currently and can't work, but my computer is with me, so I decided to show some of older works...well, this is not really older, it's basically few weeks old, but I just had no time to assemble the pics earlier. One friend asked me, some time ago, to make him a mini book with this title. I am not an Lovecraft's fan...I admire his imaginary and the language he used, but just can't get over his racism and discrimination in general. So it was a though call for me. On the other hand, my friend shares same opinions as I, but still likes the writer's style and sci-fi/horror ideas, so after some time of thinking, I decided to do it after all, just for him. When settling that, another thing jumped out in discussion. My friend stated he doesn't want any sort of octopus or similar on book covers. Ok. I asked what does he want and he said: "A spider...cause I want something I'm really scared off." It is not my custom to oppose someone's tastes (except in cases when those tastes completely oppose my own or good taste in general ), so however strange this wish sounded, I still made it. And there you have it...a strange and unusual version of "The Call of Chtulhu"... This micro book is 2 cm x 2.5 cm. It's gilded in silver paint, has 28 blank pages and spider is made of special mass I created: body basically of mixed thread trimmings and PVA and legs of nylon and PVA. The spider's hole and web gave me some trouble, as I had to cut out the hole before anything else and then cover it with fabric...pain in the behind, but it was worth of it, I think...and besides, I actually enjoyed doing it . I'm quite satisfied with spider...when done, my friend had trouble taking the book in hands, so mission (aka fear) accomplished. Anyway, hope you like it ^^ P.S. Oh yeah, and the spider is permanently attached to the book, but for reasons of better viewing, I took few photos before attaching it
^^ Thanks I love how spider turned out, already planing making two more...seams few people are interested of buying books with similar items from me, with Halloween and all ^^
Wow. Cool. I love the idea with the spider, and I admire how you put it IN the book and not just AT it (as anyone else would have done). Ever heard of the roleplaying game Call of Chtulhu?
Thanks...Yeah, I kinda like the idea of the hole too, seems creepier spider has a cave to live in instead just being decoration. No, never heard of that game...will google it, sounds interesting...
Thank you
