My friend Maat loves l'amour en cage, the most beautiful name physalis has...and that name inspired me to make a hollow heart with a little ball inside, symbolizing imprisoned or kept love, whatever you like it more. Maat visited me recently and I carved this for him
This is done in a single piece of cherry wood, general height is around 4.5 cm (1.77). When I say single piece of wood, I mean single...ball was carved from the insides, not somehow added later. And yes, it moves fully. It's a process much alike to carving ball in the cube and similar things. And it was a pain in the, hm...behind to do it, especially to make it smooth. But we do things like this for our friends, right?
On these photos, wood is already sanded on the outside and so is the ball, but the insides are still rough...it's because my friend liked it that way so it will probably stay like that.
You can see a really bad quality video of this on YT (sorry for the quality, it's pulled from a cell phone camera and even my usual camera is better than this...but, it is the only video of this I have). It is added mostly so you can see the ball moves : [link]
Very beautiful! Watching your dA page is bad for me I finally had myself focusing on bookbinding for the time being and now you make me want to pick up all matter of art and crafts again
