Your miniature books are a constant inspiration for me. I want to become a bookbinder myself; I have tought myself the basics, and I'm going to start an apprenticeship at a school for people with disabilities (I'm so happy they offer this not-so-common profession there! Otherwise I wouldn't be able to pursue this). It's going to be hard work, but art like yours always shows me how worthwile this is.
Did you have a bookbinding apprenticeship, did you take courses, or are you self-taught? I bet you had to come up with a lot of the techniques yourself, working at such tiny scales.
Second, I am incredibly happy for you and wish you the best of luck in this wonderful profession and learning it! Yes, it will be a hard work learning this, but an beautiful, satisfactory one and I'm completely sure you will enjoy it, too.
Third, to answer your question: beside of being a professional artist, my real profession is restorer/conserver of art, specialized in religious icons...In order to learn that, I had to learn calligraphy and through calligraphy I got interested in old texts and books. Then that interest pushed me further into bookbinding and my own curiosity for miniature things, into miniature books.
Lol, a long way...Actually, I never had any courses of bookbinding, but kept taking advices from professionals here and there (whenever I caught the chance, lol), until finding my way through it. And by now, sure, I come up with few techniques for this and that that help me through.
If you ever need any help, advice or anything of the sort and feel I could help, feel free to note me anytime...I will be more than glad to answer to any question and help if I can. Actually, for someone like you, it will be a pleasure.
